Here is a lengthy, rambling question and I am mostly just feeling it out to see if anyone else has had this problem and if so, what they did. The glans of my vagina has been in pain for months. It's a stabbing, burning pain so that I thought I had a UTI at first. I have been to the clinic THREE times now and she cant find any infection, but shes prescribed antibiotics just to be safe every time and those arent helping. I also took cranberry pills and AZO pills so I know its nothing to do with my urinary tract because none of that is helping. It's just the glans, and it is swollen and just hurts, hurts, hurts. I need to go to a proper gyno, but I dont have the money so I have just been seeing a female doctor at the free clinic here. I have googled the hell out of it and all I can find is alot of articles about smegma and I am about 100% that isn't my problem. I can't think of anything that would be behind it, but it did start a few weeks after I stopped birth control (because BC was pointless and I wasnt having sex anyway). But that was about three months ago, so I dont see how that could still be affecting me. |

Uva Ursi use? Possible bladder infection? Smell problem.
I've been to the gyno twice. Different doctors both times. Both for a 'smell' problem. The first one diagnosed me with BV, and gave me meds. The smell went away from my vag, but I realized I still had it around my urethra/clitoral area. Doctor said I had a bladder infection, prescribed me meds and the smell completely vanished. Once I was off the meds, the smell came right back. I waited about four months before going to another gyno. I changed gynos because I went away for college, and he was the only available one. I told him I had been treated awhile ago with BV and bladder infection meds, but the smell was back. He checked me out for both. Negative for BV, Negative for a bladder infection. Sent me on my merry way. I'm not sure if he was wrong or not, but I do think I have a bladder infection. The smell is a garlicy, acidic, butthole smell almost! Awful. It goes away if I wash around the area in the mornings, but if I go a day without a shower *phew* it is awful! It is only around my urethra and clit area. I believe the bladder infection is back, but I do not wish to seek medical treatment just yet. I would love to try to cure it naturally. How effective/safe is Uva Ursi? How much should I take to get rid of it? Should I drink cranberry juice along with it? Anyone else have this issue?
[Ah. But it doesn't burn when I pee or anything else really. Just a bad smell. The smell has been there probably since I started puberty. ...5 years ago! But I really really don't think it's just my natural body smell. Maybe I'm dehydrated? ARG. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP:)] |

Yeast infection follow-up
Hey, everyone at VP. I've been taking Monistat 3, and tonight was the last night for the suppository. I was just wondering how long I'm supposed to wait between when I apply the last dose (~6 pm on Monday) and when I get concerned about seeing final results. Does anyone have any pointers as to how long I should give it before I get concerned? I pulled out a mirror to check earlier, but when I tried to shift some things around down there, a fairly pure white liquid dribbled out of my vagina - I'm pretty sure that's the medicine, right? |

Plan B
Is it common/normal to not bleed after taking the first dose? The second dose I'll be taking when my husband gets up to go to work. I guess I figured I'd be bleeding by now, but I am not. I'm still breastfeeding my 4 month old twins and haven't had a post partum period yet. Could that be a factor? I'm not really concerned just curious. |

Pain during Doggy-style
Pain during certain sexual positions... particularly doggy style. I feel a consistent subtle pain right above the panty line/lower abdomen while we do it. It isn't enough to want to stop but it has been going on for months so my boyfriend is worried. He is afraid we could be causing long-term damage if we continue to have sex in this position if it causes me pain. (I never really complained about it but since it has been going on for a while still he is very concerned.) I figure I just need to position myself differently and I've kind of tried but not successfully. So I was wondering if we could be causing permanent damage? bleeding forever
hey everyone, i am still freaking out, I have been bleeding since December 7th and it's not my period. I called my doc and she said to get off the pill and start a new pack (yaz, still) when it's stopped. The bleeding is heavy, and my period never is. Sometimes it is clumpy, sometimes not. On and off all day and with pain on my left side (menstrual pain--which i never get when i have my period). Also, the last time I had my pd was 11/20 for a few days. I am worried that this is going on for so long. and it hurts. has anyone experienced this never ending bloodbath before? :( |

Double-edge safety razors for pubic hair?
I'm trying to a find razor that will give me a closer shave than a regular women's razor (i.e. Gillette's Venus), particularly one that isn't a multi-blade to avoid the endless rinsing between blades. It looks like a men's double-edged safety razor might be my best bet, but I'm hoping to hear some reviews from those with experience first. Thanks! |

Painkillers in Turkey
I'm about to go off to Turkey for a holiday, and just realised I'm due to be getting some early period pains towards the end of my stay. Does anyone know which painkillers are legal/illegal over there? I usually use Ponstan (mefenamic acid), paracetamol and codeine, but I'm guessing the codeine won't be OK (don't have a prescription as it's available over the counter where I live) and I'm wondering about the others. |

a couple hbc questions
i've been on yaz for 2 weeks now. I started a week and 1/2 before my natural period would have started. friday was the day my natural period was supposed to come..now i'm having sluggish spotting and some lumps. is this breakthrough bleeding? if it isn't what would be the technical term? will i get withdraw bleeding on the inactive pills at the end of my pack still? also..i was late with my sunday pill and took it this morning..then 30mins to an hr later i swallowed water the wrong way and had a coughing fit..the kind so bad that i ended up puking up some water and phlegm and i assume my pill went along with it. so i assume my protection is compromised? (my bf and i have been using condoms or the pull out method until i complete a month on yaz but it's condoms for the next week now!) thanks vp! |

Stacking birth control while on an antibiotic?
I am attempting to stack my birth control since I am not exactly down with having my period on my week long vacation in Chicago. However, I have also been on an antibiotic (z-pak) this past week since I've had the head cold from hell. Typically, not stacking, my period would start tomorrow. What are the odds that I will be successful stacking on an antibiotic? Or is it probable that this will be epic fail? |

Spotting
I've been taking a monophasic pill for almost two months, never missed one or took it late. I had spotting in the middle of the first pack and didn't think anything about it since I read it was common. Now I've taken two weeks worth of my 2nd pack and I'm spotting again, kind of at around the same time. I did have dull cramps for a few days and am now concerned that I'm spotting because this pill isn't working for me. On Christmas I had planned to have condomless sex with my boyfriend for the first time and thought everything would be fine since I took the pill correctly. But now I'm concerned. 1)Does THIS spotting mean something more than my body still adjusting to it? 2) On BCP, do you get cramps randomly or over a week before your supposed withdrawal bleed? 3)Are there any other indicators that could tell me that the pill isn't working properly? I thought there were none :( |

UTI - should I worry?
Thanks to VP, I went to see a nurse for a urine test this morning to see if I had a UTI. All my friends insisted that 'I'd know it' if I had one and I had virtually none of the symptoms - just a very slight discomfort upon peeing and later, pain in my back which I had convinced myself was in my head. Even the nurse said she doubted I had one based on my symptoms, but when she tested my urine, there were white blood cells so she gave me antibiotics. I was pretty shocked, as the symptoms were so mild, I probably wouldn't have even noticed normally. I'm worried about my kidneys now, I explained to her that they felt very uncomfortable and she said not to worry, just to take the antibiotics and go to the hospital if anything got worse. She pretty much said I'd know about it if I had a kidney infection, but then that's what everyone said about the UTI! I'm totally bummed out now. Can't believe I got this on top of my constant vagina problems, and at Christmas as well. I'm gonna have a hard time getting more antibiotics if I need them. |

Probably normal, but?
Brief background infos... And no, I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just ideas. It doesn't seem like anything serious, just an odd "This is probably normal but I wonder what others say" sort of thing where I have no idea how to go about searching the internets for clues, but figure this is an appropriate place to ask. I regularly have really heavy, messy, gross periods.. having to pretty much live next to the bathroom as I was having to change tampons at least once every 30 min... periods didn't start until I was almost 16, and were really mild/forgettable until I was 21... from 20-26 (give or take a couple of years) the heavy bleeding started, and on top of that it was not unusual to have a 2 week period, and then start again 2 weeks later... or sometimes I would go 2-3 months (6 months one time) without a period, then back to the 2 weeks on 2 weeks off... Then settled out a bit so that periods came every 6-8 weeks.. 2-3 years ago when I was living with a female roommate for a while, I started having them about every 4 weeks (though we never actually synched up, I would usually start a few days after she finished)... Since then they've still usually been pretty heavy, but being more regular seemed to ease that up a bit (also, someone told me that orgasms can help for shorter or less miserable periods so... *cough*) This month... it came a week earlier than expected, and was pretty light. A full period, just not a hugely heavy flow, and lasted about 4 1/2 days... ended about a week ago. Started again today, really light so far... I suppose if its coming back that means I'll be good for new years, lol... Just thought it was odd. I'm not on any sort of medications... Had been under a lot of stress, and just moved from IL to OK, and the stress is pretty much gone. I've heard that in the early 30's (32 now) things might sometimes change again, but dammit... I just a couple of years ago fell into a regular sort of cycle :( and yes I am sexually active, but the period that ended last week was I think the 2nd one since the last time I was with someone. (Aka, I've had a full period before this odd one, so don't believe pregnancy could be the issue) Maybe once I get a job I'll just look into birth control, though I'd rather go IUD or steriliziation as I don't want kids at all... but something that helps regulte periods might help with the heavy flow. I suppose the question, if there is one, is "This is normal, right?" though since I'm here... I hear 'spotting' mentioned all the time but have no idea what that actually means... have a theory that this could be it, lol.. but? (sorry for any incoherence, tis 2am and I'm falling asleep here) |

Holy crap, a yeast what?
So, VP, I think I have had many a yeast infection and just not known it. Maybe a hundred. Maybe four. I mean, sure, I've had a lot of cases of OMG ITCHY VAG in my time. I've also had a LOT of white, thick discharge. I mean, at least once every other month. I've had about every symptom in the book, now that I know what it is. I've always just marked it up as life and moved on. Is not treating a yeastie a really, really bad idea? |

incredibly long period?
Last month when I was on the Pill I missed a lot of the pills (I know, I know, not a good thing) and it took a few days for my period to start after I took the last one (it usually starts right away) and that was 2 weeks ago. I still have my period! And I've been back on the Pill for 8 days (usually when I start back on it's gone within a few hours to a day). Is this abnormal? Should I contact my doctor? |

Something to worry about?
I had a D&C back in October because of a Molar pregnancy. I have not had a period since. I had put that down to the fact that I had the depo shot about 2 1/2 weeks after the D&C. I've started wondering if I'm right though. Is that what you would expect when you start taking depo (I've never used it before) or do you think that it's something I should get checked out? |

how would you react?
My best friend told me a story today, and I have to wonder how other folks would react. What better place to ask than wonderful VP? She went to a party on friday and spent all of saturday hungover and feeling "bleh." I think most folks have done that at least once in their life. She was still ucky this morning and her husband woke her up before he left for for work to try to have sex with her.(He has 15 min before walking out the door, it's 745am, and her day off.) He starts rubbing her back, she rolls over and says, "no way that's going to happen." He then says "give me a blow job then." to which she replied "are you on f'ing crack?" he got pissed off and left to go to work. She's still really ticked off over the whole episode and I would be too. She says she felt like he was treating her as just a piece of meat, etc. If you were in a similar situation, would you be really angry too? I think if my husband pulled that on me, I might have gone ahead and tried, and then when I ended up puking on him, that would have served him right. (sorry if that sounds too mean or not-safe-spaceish.) just wondered, thanks all. Current Mood:  curious |

Mood problems on pill
Hey everybody, so after about 4-5 months (not sure which) of being on the pill (Microgestin Fe 1/20), I am starting to notice a pattern (thanks to Livejournal!). Basically, around the 15th-17th of the past few months, I've had a significant drop in mood. I become extremely irritable, depressed, and sometimes just totally apathetic/numb. I lash out on the people around me (especially my boyfriend). THEN! I stop taking my pills on the 22nd, and get my period the 23rd, and feel all better again. So: could this be my pill, giving me such horrible PMS? Is it possible for my pill to do this? I was never like this before! and quite frankly, it is awful. Should I talk to my doctor about switching? |

K I'm pretty terrified right now. So, I'm on BC but also on an antibiotic that lowers its effectiveness. Well, I didn't really think about this and had unprotected sex with my boyfriend four times in a very short period of time, during my most fertile time, according to my online predictor. Well, reading the antibiotic package, I flipped out and purchased Plan B, an took it within 24 hours of the first sexual act. Now, a week and two days later, I'm bleeding. It's bright red and stringy. It's not my period as it's relatively light... Well, I know spotting is pretty common while taking Plan B, but there is also a likelihood that this is implantation bleeding, as it is exactly one week before my period is suppose to begin... I read that implantation bleeding is normally darker, brownish or even black, and this is a pretty vibrant red, but I'm still terrified.... I have really light cramps as well, and my breasts are kind of sore... Is this implantation bleeding or the effects of the emergency contraception?? |

Facebook & Poo
Due to the social networking wonder that is Facebook, a childhood friend of mine and I were discussing poo. During the conversation, she seemed concerned when I told her I almost never pee and poop at once. (I do, but only in dire emergency, "I drank one more cup of coffee thinking I could make it to the next rest stop, but the next rest stop was closed, there's way too much nothing in the desert, and the cacti are pokey and will not shield my bum view from other drivers -- WTF is a Border Patrol checkpoint line doing here?!?!? Eleventypee!" situations.) Not that I don't do them in the same sitting, which I do, but that they don't come out simultaneously. The concern was that, since I usually poop before I pee, I was then holding in my urine. And that, because I was holding in my urine too long, it might contribute to UTI problems in the present or in the future. While I can understand the reasoning, I think, for me, it doesn't really pan out. First, I don't feel like I'm holding in urine, just that, when I go, I'm pooping first. Second, while I understand that it's not great to hold in urine too long, I think the extra 15-30 seconds it takes for me to have a bowel movement is not going to make or break my bladder. (Because, if my bladder does start to go, I'm totally blaming the coffee and the rest stops. And the cacti. Effing too-short cacti.) However, the reason I am coming to you now, VP, is not worry but curiosity. I must know how many people pee and poop simultaneously and how many people do one before the other (and if so, which comes before and which comes after). So please, tell me all about what goes on in your bathroom. :P |
